Consultancy Services
Enabling access to buildings for people with disabilities has been addressed by the Disability Discrimination Act 1996 which became applicable to all businesses in 2004. However transport providers are often missed out of the consultancy market leaving a gap in the vital provisions to access for all. Valerie Richards addresses these issues, specialising in transport accessibility and offering training and solutions to allow service provider’s services to meet the legal requirements of the DDA.
Valerie Richards has extensive expertise and experience of running voluntary organisations. In the 80s she Chaired Brighton Youth Centre, developing it from a boys’ boxing club into a thriving, accessible youth centre open to all young people. Over the last 12 ½ years she used this experience to transform Brighton and Hove Federation of Disabled People from a little known organisation, into a successful well respected charity. On account of this experience, Valerie is extremely well qualified and able to provide advice on running, small non-profit organisations, including advice on:
- * promotion
- * fundraising
- * rules and regulations associated with running a charitable organisation.
- * non-managerial support and coaching
Managing these organisations has required an element of conflict management where personnel are concerned. Having been very active with NALGO (now Unison), Valerie has been trained in negotiating skills especially in the area of industrial relations.
At present Valerie is working with Brighton and Hove Community Transport providing managerial and development consultancy and support.
